The shortest of the Gospels, Mark was likely written by the apostle with a predominantly gentile audience in mind. We see an emphasis on who Jesus was and why his ultimate destiny through the cross was so critical. Mark is full of snap shots in the life of Jesus, jumping in Chapter 1 right into His ministry… miracles, counter-cultural teaching, challenges and perseverance. The book culminates with His road through the cross to resurrection, ascension and being seated at the right hand of the Father.
The last word… the movement He launched that is the church: “And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.” (Mark 16:20 ESV)
